Bass, Agilence partner to bait retail market

LOS ANGELES--Agilence and Bass Security signed a partnership that will enable Bass to sell Agilence's shrink reduction solution to its retail customers.

Agilence identifies shrink caused by cashier fraud, operational inefficiencies and policy violations by pulling data directly from POS systems and marries the data with video, linking an individual item with its associated video image.

Joseph Mignone, vice president of sales and marketing for Bass Security, said this partnership "gives us a best-of-breed product to deliver to our existing 100,000 retailers. We are able to approach our customers with the solution and in turn, [Agilence] has a customer base that may need an integrator."

Bass Security counts hundreds of retailers around the country, including more than 50 Fortune 500 companies, as its customers.

Bass was interested in a joint agreement with Agilence because it has developed what Mignone called "the industry's leading analytics product for retailers. We don't have a product in our portfolio that met that need for retailers."

Mignone said Bass "really understands the industry and the market" and that has attributed to their success in the retail space.  Another reason "we have so much success is that we are still considered a low-cost provider in this space" and in an age when retailers are being asked to save 20 percent to 30 percent out of their budget, that can be a relevant sales point.

Summing up the deal, Derek Rodner, vice president of marketing and product strategy for Agilence, said this "is a straightforward relationship. Bass provides the service and the hardware and Agilence provides the software. We both have a significant customer base and we together provide an offering for a customer that is not easy to pass up."
